All participants will receive certificates marking their participation in the competition. The judges reserve the right to award 3 additional prizes to outstanding competitors.

This year, the judges are Conductor Miltos Logiadis, Kalliope Germanou, and Domna Evnouchidou.

Contest Rules



Eligibility: Applicants must be under 20 year of age as of 4 November 2017. The DionysiaTrust Piano prize welcomes pianists of all nationalities.

Previous First Prize winners may NOT compete again. Former winners other than First Prize may compete. Past competitors who did not win are welcome to participate again with an open choice of repertoire.

Repertoire: Pianist must perform two (2) pieces by Frederic Chopin, one (1) Waltz of their choice and a one (1) piece of choice by Chopin. Former winners other than First Prize may compete with a repertoire where one of the 2 pieces must be new. Past competitors who did not win are welcome to participate with an open choice of repertoire.

Performances from memory will be attributed greater technical merit by the judges, but are not required for participation.

Contest: The competition will take place in The Lilian Voudouri Great Music Library in the Megaron Athens Concert Hall on Saturday, 4 November 2017 from 10:00-14:30. The competition is open to the public. Each competitor can be accompanied by two guests. Additional guests can buy tickets at the entrance for 10 euros, 5 euros for 6-12 years olds, and free for younger children. We encourage public attendance.

Once accepted applicants must reserve their place by 31 October 2017 and register the pieces they will perform. All applicants will be expected to check in with the registrar on 4 November 2017 with their signed registration form and a photo ID to receive their performance time slot. Any late performers will forfeit their place. A maximum of 50 applicants will be accepted to compete.

Adjudication: The jury will consist of individuals with unique expertise in the field of music. Its members will be announced on or by 1 November 2017. The jury reserves the right to stop the performer at any point. The selection and ranking of the winners will be determined by a combination of musical skills, technique, performance ability, and artistic expression. All decisions of the jury will be final.

Results: Winners will be announced the same day of the competition as well as on this website in and relevant news and/or press. The winners will be awarded with certificates and cash prizes in a brief ceremony after adjudication. All participants will receive certification marking their participation in the competition.

Application

 

  • The DionysiaTrust 2017 Piano Prize is open to pianists who are under 20 years old as of 4 November 2017. All applications will be reviewed by the screening committee whose decisions will be final.
  • An application form for the competition must be received complete with all enclosures and a non-refundable application fee of €30, paid by bank transfer or online payment through paypal.
  • Proof of age (Photocopy of birth certificate, passport, Hellenic ID)
  • Applicants will be notified via email upon receipt of completed application packet.
  • Applicants will be notified via email and/or telephone if they have been selected to compete by 8 November 2015 and will receive a registration form to be completed and submitted on the day of the competition.
  • Application to the competition constitutes acceptance by the contestant of all contest rules and regulations.

Q. How do I get to The Lilian Voudouri Great Music Library in the Megaron Athens Concert Hall?

Q. Will I be able to practice while in Athens?
A. We cannot provide facilities for practice. You are welcome to make your own arrangements.

Q. Is there a dress code?
A. No athletic shoes or jeans and T-Shirts

Q. How do I register?
A. At 10a. on 4 November 2017 please present a signed copy of your registration together with a photo ID. At this time you will receive you performance time slot and must be present at the concert hall 30 minutes before you are to compete.

Q. What if I am late?
A. If you are more than 15 minutes late to register on the morning of 4 November 2017 you forfeit your position. You must be at the theatre one hour before your performance time or you forfeit your chance to perform.

Q. What do I do if I am scheduled to compete at the end of the day?
A. We cannot provide facilities for you to practice or to wait. You are welcome to make your own arrangements to practice or to wait during the competition hours of 10:00-14:30.

Q. Can I bring someone with me to the competition?
A. Yes. The competition is open to the public. Each competitor can bring 2 guests, and additional guests can purchase a ticket for 10 euros at the door, 5 euros for 12-6 years olds, and free for younger children.

Q. Can someone help turn the pages of my sheet music when I compete?
A. Yes. Please request this when you check in on the day of the competition.
